The great adventure

On May 2000 ThorViking left Arvika, Värmland/Sweden her homeport,  once again for a new adventure.  But this time ThorViking was not leaving for a trip on Swedish waters.  ThorViking was heading for much more then that.  In Gothenburg ThorViking was loaded on a Containership and  shipped via Island to North Canada, New Foundland.  In memory of Leif Ericson, the son of Eric the Red Canada was celebrating  the discovery of America 500 years before Columbus.  A almost authentic Viking village has been build at L’Anse aux Meadows,  the place where Norwegian archologist Helge Ingstad in the mid of the  sixties found signs of Viking settlement.  But to recreate the life at L’Anse aux Meadows Viking ships were needed.  And so the  VTTA  (  Viking Trail Tourism Association  )  decided to invite several European-, US-, Canadian- and Skandinavian  Viking replicas to the historical site at the north tip of New Foundland.  For ThorViking and Crew this was an offer no-one could refuse.  The Crew left Sweden July the 20th and went via Island and Greenland to NF by plane.  Because the crew was early they conquered the finest place above the Atlantic ocean,  call it "The ThorViking Hill" and raised their Base-Camp on top of it.
